Mild winter did not stop the arrival of some interesting species to the Black Sea coast. 3 <strong>Common Scoter <\/strong><em>Melanitta nigra<\/em>20 Jan Karasu, Sakarya and one at Yakakent Harbour, Samsun on 13 Jan. A single <strong>Slavonian Grebe<\/strong> <em>Podiceps auritus<\/em> was recorded between 25-27 Jan at \u0130\u011fneada Harbour, K\u0131rklareli. Two <strong>Lesser Flamingo<\/strong> <em>Phoenicopterus minor<\/em> was video-recorded together at Lake Kulu on 5 Apr. A single <strong>Black-winged Kite<\/strong> <em>Elanus caeruleus<\/em> near Adana, on 6-14 Jan may indicate a future breeding site for the species. A wintering <strong>Lesser Kestrel<\/strong> <em>Falco naumanni<\/em> was G\u00f6ksu Delta 7 Jan. <strong>Baillon&#8217;s Crake<\/strong> <em>Zapornia pusilla<\/em> is still rarely recorded, one was present at Milleyha, Hatay between 31 Mar and 13 Apr.<br\/>The highlight of the period is certainly <strong>Grey-headed Lapwing <\/strong><em>Vanellus cinereus <\/em>on11 Mar Samsun, K\u0131z\u0131l\u0131rmak Delta making up the second record for the OSME region. Four <strong>Black-winged Pratincole<\/strong> <em>Glareola nordmanni<\/em> on 28 Apr at Milleyha, Hatay confirms rare passage of the species in spring. At the same site the first <strong>Great Black Backed Gull<\/strong> <em>Larus marinus<\/em> was recorded on 31 Mar, with another single on 26 Jan at K\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck\u00e7ekmece, \u0130stanbul.The second addition to the national checklist is a single <strong>Oriental Skylark <\/strong><em>Alauda gulgula<\/em>at Milleyha, Hatay, well documented with photos. A group of 3 <strong>Bohemian Waxwing<\/strong> <em>Bombycilla garrulus<\/em>, 3 was briefly documented on 15 Ocak, at Riva \u0130stanbul. <br\/>The third addition to the national list was a <strong>Basra Reed Warbler <\/strong><em>Acrocephalus griseldis<\/em> trapped and photographed at Aras Rringing Station, I\u011fd\u0131r on 24 May. Warm southern winds in early spring brought good species to the Mediterranean coastland. A single <strong>Hooded Wheatear <\/strong><em>Oenanthe monacha<\/em>at Manavgat on 24 May, singles of <strong>Cyprus Warbler <\/strong><em>Sylvia melanothorax<\/em>atBo\u011fazkent Antalya, on 11 Mar and G\u00f6ksu Delta on 22 Mar, a <strong>Asian Desert Warbler<\/strong> <em>Sylvia nana<\/em> at Serik, Antalya on 22 Mar and singles of <strong>Desert Wheatear <\/strong><em>Oenanthe deserti <\/em>at Serik Antalya <em>on <\/em>24 Mar, at Manavgat on 25 Mar and at \u00c7\u0131ral\u0131, Antalya on 26 Mar. Finally a single <strong>Pine Bunting <\/strong><em>Emberiza leucocephalos<\/em><strong> was present at <\/strong>Aras ringing station , I\u011fd\u0131r on 2 Mar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first half of 2018 produced limited number of interesting records, however there were three great additions to Turkish checklist.
